Blog One
Last week I was in Italy, including the wonderful growing area of Lazio, just south of Rome.
Lazio has an almost 12 month growing season because of the mountains which circle the area from coast to coast like a horseshoe, with the flatland in between almost forming its own micro-climate!
On Monday I spent the morning in an artisan tomato-tinning factory, watching a range of different tomato varieties, including regular passata and tomatoes with basil, being tinned and jarred.
I then visited the markets of Fondi, which sell fruit and vegetables from local growers. All of these farmers deliver their produce in any shape or form, including one local who transported his on top of a Ford Fiesta! I’m not sure if that’s the best way of doing it.
I then went truffle-hunting, and you can find out what we’ll be doing with these later in the week.

I will be updating this blog with more stories from my trip throughout the week.
